Project Overview
The Problem & the Solution
The Challenge
Pinch needed to solve real coordination problems between tourists exploring Oman and the guides supporting them — not just deliver another travel listing app.
- Tourists needed a reliable way to discover places, trails, and certified guides across Oman without switching between maps, social media, and phone calls.
- Guides needed a better way to receive bookings, manage trips, and stay in touch with travelers before and during each experience.
- The platform had to support real-time communication, route tracking, and location-based discovery in one product.
- The experience had to work smoothly for both tourists and guides, with separate workflows built on the same foundation.
The Solution
We built a cross-platform tourism platform with map-first discovery, role-based mobile journeys, and backend systems designed to scale with the product.
What we delivered
- A cross-platform tourism app with map-first discovery for destinations, guides, trails, and points of interest.
- Tourist and guide workflows from the same codebase, each with purpose-built screens and actions.
- Booking, trail recording, guide chat, QR/ticket flow, and admin management in one connected system.
- Scalable backend APIs to support mobile apps, dashboards, bookings, locations, and user workflows.
Outcomes
Business Impact
The platform was designed to improve how discovery, booking, and coordination work — for travelers and for the guides running the experience.
Faster Discovery
Travelers can explore destinations, trails, and guide availability directly through the app.
Easier Guide Operations
Guides can manage bookings, trails, communication, and trip details from one interface.
Better Booking Experience
The platform reduces manual coordination by connecting tourists and guides through a structured booking flow.
Scalable Tourism Platform
The backend and dashboard were designed to support future expansion across more destinations, guides, and services.
Core Features
Every Detail, Designed for the Trail
Four interconnected capabilities that turn discovery into booking, coordination, and on-the-ground guidance.
Map-First Discovery
Instead of sending users through multiple screens, Pinch puts the map at the center — so tourists can explore nearby destinations, guides, trails, and points of interest in context.
- Helps travelers find what is around them without losing location context
- Color-coded pins for attractions, POIs, and forts
- Category filters and clustered map markers
- Location detail sheets with directions, packages, and chat actions
Tourist Booking Flow
The booking flow replaces back-and-forth calls and messages with a clear in-app journey — from package selection to payment confirmation.
- Structured booking path from discovery to confirmation
- Guide package listings with photos and pricing
- Availability checks, traveler details, and promo codes
- Thawani payment integration and booking status updates
Guide Trail Recording
Guides can record and manage outdoor routes so tourists get better trail content, clearer trip planning, and more trustworthy on-the-ground guidance.
- Route recording with background location tracking
- Crash-safe resume for incomplete trail drafts
- POI creation for viewpoints, services, and guide notes
- Moderation before trails appear to tourists
Real-Time Guide Chat
In-app messaging helps tourists and guides coordinate quickly before a trip and stay aligned while plans change on the ground.
- Direct conversations tied to guides and bookings
- Socket.io powered real-time messaging
- Deep links into chat screens from profiles and shared links
- Push notifications for new messages and trip updates
Platform Experience
One Codebase,
Two Journeys.
Tourist and guide experiences were built from a shared codebase — keeping product foundations consistent while giving each role the workflows they actually need.
- Shared authentication, maps, chat, and notifications
- Separate onboarding and navigation per role
- Guest browsing for tourists; license verification for guides
- One product foundation, two purpose-built experiences

Behind the Build
Engineering Challenges We Solved
The product looked simple on the surface. Underneath, it needed careful architecture across maps, roles, bookings, and real-time coordination.
Map Performance
Handled map-heavy screens with many destination and guide markers while keeping the mobile experience smooth.
Real-Time Communication
Implemented chat workflows so tourists and guides could coordinate quickly inside the app.
Role-Based Experience
Designed separate tourist and guide journeys while maintaining a shared product foundation.
Booking State Management
Managed booking statuses, trip updates, and user actions across mobile and backend systems.
Scalable API Structure
Built APIs that support mobile apps, admin dashboard, bookings, locations, and user workflows.
Deployment & Maintenance
Prepared the platform for production deployment, monitoring, and ongoing improvements.
